Campaign group Scotland Against Spin says it has “moved up a gear” in its bid to help communities – including those in Caithness and Sutherland – that feel overwhelmed by large-scale energy projects.
The group’s petition, calling for communities to have stronger powers to influence planning decisions relating to onshore wind, came before the Scottish Parliament’s citizen participation and public petitions committee on Wednesday.
The committee agreed unanimously that Gillian Martin, the cabinet secretary for climate action and energy, should respond to the concerns and called for the petition to be debated in the Scottish Parliament.
The committee convener, Jackson Carlaw (Conservative and Unionist), noted that the petition had generated “considerable interest” among MSPs.
